Would you be frozen after death?

I was just watching a program about people who were cryogenically frozen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryonics) immediately after they died with the hopes of being brought back to life in the future with advancments in medicine. Its actually a really complicated process and you don't just get put in a bag and thrown into a freezer.
I was looking at websites and there's a couple of places that offer these services including this one which seems to be the leader of the industry http://www.alcor.org/

I know it might seem like a long shot but with the medical industry making major advancements all the time it wouldn't be too much of a stretch of the imagination to think that sometime in the future they may be able to bring you back to life. Especially when you consider the fact that you could be frozen for hundreds or even thousands of years.

So my question is, would you ever consider it?

The people in the future would probably rather you stay dead so they can use your precious cadaver.

With the current way it's done, no. Too much damage is caused the brain during the freezing process to ever be fixed. That's with both just the head and full body methods.

Can't exactly grow a new brain and stuff it in your old body in the future and upload "yourself" into it.

Need a process where you can be downloaded and stored on a harddrive. A new body is grown from your stemcells and screened for defects. Age as required and your uploaded into the new bod and off you go again.

Don't know about digital purgatory part though.

No so eventually when they thaw you out in 1000 years time and all you will do is whinge about FF, house prices, and the rest of the ****e- they'd freeze your ass back up again

But then it wouldn't really be you, would it? Like, it could be a perfect carbon copy of you. As far as the copy is concerned, it's still you. But you as far as you're concerned has been destroyed. You.

Yeah i would, i think in say 200 years time they will be able to bring you back to life.
Sure they are even talking about generation spaceships where they freeze people for hundreds of years until they reach a new planet.

I like the notion of having some random stranger pass acknowledgement at my headstone, tbh .. As I do in my local

but if yer into that cryogenics carry on, just remember if the golden age has log since passed just where the **** are we headed.. You wanna be a part of that future?! Where they can scan an image of your very thoughts n everything that was good will be even more watered down n done to death . Serious?!

If it's way in the future, the body grown from your stem cells would be eaten alive by new evolved diseases and viruses, future
microbes would attack your old immune system and your body would become petrified like the aliens at the end of that film War of the worlds.

Nah, that's cloning you're on about. My way, or theory if you will, work with me here on this.:D

You stick a USB cable in your brain, download all your memories, feeling quirks, life experiences etc. Store it is as a "you file". A new body is grown for you, could be a clone with a blank brain as such, grow till your mid 20s say. Plug the computer with the "you file" up to the new body with the blank brain, upload and off you go. You are still you mentally. Then there would be the mental shock of not needing viagra for another 30 odd years.:D

    No.

I'd be pretty worried what my boyfriend could do with a warm coat, a hairdryer and some of that Durex heat lube.

Oh, it'll work for the new body with my mind. As far as it's concerned, everything's dandy. It'll think it's me. And it is me, for all intents and purposes. But me, the original, I'm dead. My memories thoughts and everything live on in a new body, but the original (me) is dead.

Only the physical you. But sure who gives a fúck about that, you could request a newer, fresher, bigger muscled, swinging 12incher of a body and just have your mind in it!

Yea I can see it in the future.. at the cryo labs.. the two scientists are like "yea we cured him and we could thaw him out... but he was an awful human being who ran sweatshops and slums."

    lets just leave it off...

    Highfive...and drinks after.

The mental you too. The new you would be a copy of you. Not the original. Mentally and physically. As I said, the copy wouldn't know the difference and would be delighted with the change. But the original (which is you, from your own perspective) is fucked.

But the new you wouldn't know the difference so it'd be all good.

Except for the old you which would be dead but would not know it's dead. My way of doing it keeps the old you mentally intact but with a shiny new external casing.

But I wouldn't be the new me, I'd be the old me. Not only have I been struck by an unspecific terminal illness but a perfected carbon copy of me is ready to continue living my life once I'm dead. That would really suck. For me.

Imagine waking up though and everyone you knew and loved was dead. The effort of having to make loads of new friends in a thousand years doesn't seem too appealing.

Unless that new Mcdonalds ad comes true and we can just teleport for food, then I'm in :pac:

I was thinking the complete oppisite of being frozen when I die. I was thinking of getting central heating in my coffin, along with a Playstation, big-screen TV, a couple of bass bins, some neon lights, and maybe a popcorn maker. I'm going to get your man from Pimp My Ride to do it.

How could it be when they are already dead when initially frozen?

aye but der not in der heads, so would it be mass defrosting?

come on just answer the question what would it be, stop beating about the bush

    No.

I'd be pretty worried what my boyfriend could do with a warm coat, a hairdryer and some of that Durex heat lube.

You'd be defrosted at least one a week and then shoved back into the freezer beside the goodfella's pizza and the Ben & Jerry Bohemian Raspberry.

Although your metabolism will slow to close to zero when you enter Hypersleep you will still need some energy supply to your body- you'll need to keep the pizzas and cornettos in there, and just squash yourself in.
