Samsung Galaxy Mini no longer syncing to PC

as thread title states, it was doing so until about 2 days ago - reckon there were some updates that affected it - now I don't know how to ensure that the PC picks up the phone - any advice greatly appreciated (btw, I didn't set it up first day)
