    It's hardly twaddle. It's been proven as possible, with quite a few accounts and records of it happening. It's rare but possible.

    I think BBC Horizon did a documentary on it years ago. Fat from body will burn through cloth like a candle wick. If you get a pigs leg, wrap it in cloth and light the cloth, it will burn to ash. And that's what most likely happens in the incidence of spontaneous human combustion.

    New ciagrette coming on the market later this year to prevent a cigarette that is left in an ashtray from continuing to burn.

    It has extra rings of paper around the tube at two point down along the length of the tube, preventing air getting to the burning tobacco. If you leave it in an ash tray, it will go out.

    It's called the Human wick effect, and you're exactly right about how it works.

    There would have to be an ignition source, there is not enough heat in a human body to auto-ignite.
