    Section 11 of the

S.I. No. 534/2008 — Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations 2008

    http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/2008/en/si/0534.html

    Contains the following requirements.

    "Fire Safety

    11. (1) Subject to sub-article (2), the house shall contain a fire blanket and either a mains-wired smoke alarm or at least two 10-year self-contained battery-operated smoke alarms.

    (2) Each self-contained house in a multi-unit building shall contain a mains-wired smoke alarm, a fire blanket and an emergency evacuation plan.

    (3) Emergency lighting, linked to the fire alarm system, shall be provided in all common areas within a multi-unit building."

My client has had a LA inspection and has been told to:
"Provide one 10-year self-contained battery-operated smoke alarm in the lounge."

I have just picked up a Ei62RC Smoke alarm and it says its mains powered with 10 year battery rechargeable backup.

I think its not correct so any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    ps from herehttp://www.aico.co.uk/product-search.html

it seems perhaps I should have got the Ei100TYC
Ionisation Smoke Alarm. 10 Year Lithium Battery powered. Interconnectable.

My supplier does nit carry them so if this is the correct unit would appreciate where I might source it in North Co Dublin

    not familiar with those regs

the 100tyc is a battery only alarm

whereas the first one is a mains with rechargeable lithium

so is that the prefererred option now then for accomodation- 10yr battery only alarms?

linking the fire and em lighting is a good idea anyhow

a pair from a relay base(w/battery) anywhere on the line

to the EL test unit or n/c multipole contactor

    something like that

so these self contained battery alarms are preferred to the mains alarms

might make sense in a way

But what about the fact they are not interlinked?
In a largish house, one might not hear a smoke going off downstairs when asleep at night...possible leading to a lesser escape time.

the 100tyc has interconnect via 2 core cable

the 10yr alarms in paddys link prob don't have interconnect

afraid im not familiar with these regs

EI do a ten Year battery smoke alarm with Radiolink interconnect, so no wiring at all EI 405TY is the product code.
Its a great problem solver but is expensive.
I installed some recently for a lady who had a disabled bedroom extension built. The builders electrician did not install any smoke detectors. When she retrospectively applied for a grant from Dublin City Council she had to have alarms installed to qualify, these units saved the day. Very happy customer.:)
