    I call BS on this one. How can a seventeen year old kid with no survival training or outdoor experience survive for five years in the Ore Mountains of Eastern Germany?

    Good point. I have lived in BC and Alaska in a tent. Non of them have lasted very long let alone for five years.

    The debris hut is a much better option. I lived in one of those for six months and never had a problem.

    I take it you've seen Into the Wild. The whole thing looks fantastic (in a romantic way, from the comfort of my warm couch!), but my wife would wrinkle her nose if I suggested a guesthouse for a night, let alone a tent, let alone an extended spell in debris hut!

    It must have been some experience.
