Hi, Just moved into a mobile few months ago thinking Id be fine but its got fierce cold and someone told me that the electric radiators that I have in it, will cost about 400euro to run per unit for the winter!!

I was thinking of a small wood burner so contacted a company outside Navan called "FirstClass Fireplaces".

I know nothing about stoves but ive gone to a few companies and this one is the cheapest to buy the stove, the flu, double insulation and all the bits and have it fitted which comes to 890euro. Its a 4kw stove, my question is will it be enough to heat the whole mobile, or would i be better getting the bigger 9km which is 250euro more.

There is limited space so the smaller one would be better and cheaper, I just dont want it to be too small and not heat the mobile!!

    Any advice please???????

    thanks,

The 4kw stove in my opinion is a bit too small. It would heat the open lounge/ kitchen and take chill of bedroom. I would imagine the insulation would be poor so try and buy a stove around 5- 5.5 kw. 9kw would be way too much and if fitted would be closed down so much it would have an inefficient burn. I have sized it for a 30ft by 10ft mobile home.

4kW sounds too small alright. Be very careful with the installation or you'll burn the place down !!!

    Thanks for both the comments.

I checked with a few companies and they all said they would have to use a double insulated pipe all the way up as its a mobile and made of wood and tin and needs to be very well protected!! I had thought of trying to do it myself as there are 6kw stoves on donedeal for 199euro but id have to organise the flu and bits all myself and then get a handy man with, probably no experience of mobiles to fit and I think for insurance reasons im probly better to go with the real company anyway.

I cant remember the name of the place I went to on the summerhill road out of dunboyne but the guy quoted 1300 as appossed to the other place in navan. I think your right about the bigger one though, and i didnt underatstand about going to big, casuing an insuffiecient burn.

Ill phone the lady from Firstclass again and see what she says about a 5.5kw, i dont know if they have them.

Can anyone reccommend another firm? Dublin/meath/louth area?

    Cheers

Yes, it definately would have to be a twin wall insulated flue and for safety get the installer to fit it. At least then it's his responsibility to install it to regulations. depending on your budget and how long you will be living in the mobile home it may be better to spend a bit more on the stove on a known make. The cheap cast iron stove may only last a few years and generally imported from china.

hey, Im thinking of maybe trying to install it myself as just dont have the funds to get professionally done.

The 4-5kw in this link is only 199, but my query is its stated as a 16' opening. I was half under the assumtion that flue pipes were 15' or can you get 16' aswell.

I know you said previously that cast iron ones will only last a few years, but its not for regular use, just weekends etc.

Is there a link that you posted before "stove fan" that explains what you need to fit a stove. I thinking to give it a go as im pretty handy :)
