    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2011/0922/1224304522226.html

First came Obama, then came the Queen and now it has been confirmed that the Olympic Torch will visit these shores.I feel that the only event that can now top this hat-trick is the Second Coming itself.

However this future, momentous occasion leaves me with a few questions that only AH posters would give due, serious consideration to.

Firstly, when it crosses the border will it be seeking it's missing apostrophe and are there any other Irish O'Lympics out there who feel that they may be related to the Torch. So far I have not heard of any Irish town or village claiming common ancestry.

Secondly, now that it has been confirmed that the Torch will visit Croke Park, does this mean that, finally, our National sports, Gaelic Football and Hurling, will, at long last, be welcomed into the larger O'Lympic family.

Thirdly, during it's visit to the Garden of Remembrance,on June 6th(D-Day), will it give a speech 'as Gaeilge' a la Queen Lizzie.

I know you will all consider my questions deeply and I look forward to your responses. It will be a momentous day in the history of this island and I'm sure we will all feel honored by the presence of the Torch on our emerald Isle.
    IS FEIDER LINN !

Anyone else thoroughly embarrassed at the "O'Lympic" joke? <facepalm>

You do know the actual home for the Olympics is Greece. So, essentially, the torch is still an avid traveler.

Also "momentous occasion"? It's a torch. Fire. I can make my own torch at home. Although might be arrested for running about town (which town!) with it.

Guaranteed TV coverage for that. Possible gold medals for boxing? There's even talk of ssome of the athletes and spectators staying or visiting here while the olympics are on.

Well, when the IMF are finished with them, it's home will be Berlin or Paris...

There will be massive interest in the games in this country and we have realistic medal prospects in a number of events, especially boxing. I think this is a great precursor to the games and hope I can get to see it jog by.

G'wan Katie Taylor, knock the shíte outta them and bring back a gold.
