Buying a car private- any tips

    Hi
I've found a car that ticks all the boxes for me, mileage, year, cost etc, it's a private sale and i've bargained the seller down to a price that suits me, it has a full service history most recent service in April.
As it's not cheap and with a private sale you don't really have any comeback, i'd like someone preferably a mechanic to give it the once over.
Someone mentioned to me that the AA do this and give you a guarantee on their inspection? Is this true or has anybody any suggestions of what i should do?

    Thanks
