Hi guys Im back in college after 15 years now and part of my syllabus is Mathamatics, Im having a little trouble with vectors mainly the subtraction.

    I have 3 points on a x and y axix graph each called v u and w
I can do the addition no problem and the basic subtraction but the last question was

    V - U -W
    ________
    4

Could anyone explain it simples to me id really appretiate it.
do I subtract the V from u by a parralelogram and then subtract the w get that point and divide by 4 (kind of like the reverse of a scalar)

    Im lost!!

A 2D vector is just an arrow. Draw any old arrow, and call it X. The definition of -X is the vector that you add to X to get the 0 vector.

In other words, -X is just X, but pointing in the opposite direction.

Now the subtraction Y - X is the same as adding Y + (-X). That means in order to subtract, you flip the direction of X then add.
