Hi, this isn't really a work problem, more a job app problem, but I want to go un-reg for this. The above was mentioned in the application procedure section of an ad for a job I applied for last week.

I took that to mean that once they had gone through all the applications and decided the shortlist, that they would then would start sending return emails. But do you think it means they would read your application and promptly send you a return mail? If so, then I am quite disappointed. There are lots of times when I wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't hear anything about a job I applied for because I might have very few of the desirable or mandatory skills, but for this one in particular, I tick ALL the boxes, and it is a fairly specialised area, so I really hoped I would have a very good chance of getting an interview. My cover letter and CV were well-written but I did annoyingly notice a tiny typo in the cover letter after I sent it. :(

If it turns out I don't hear anything, should I inquire as to why I didn't make the cut?

    No.

    And yes.

I'd give it a while though, they might only send out the letters once all applications have been received and the closing date has passed.

The closing date passed on Friday. :)

Well, they might only be sifting through them now, rather than looking at each application and sending a letter one by one.

I know, I just get antsy when it's a job I can do asleep! :)
