    Soooo,

Someone that works for the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht has bought a site and want to develop it but cannot do so under current legislation so wants to move the goalposts to suit themself.

Bleedin' typical. Only in Ireland EHH!!!

These people need to be removed from any position of power so what can we do to make sure this cannot happen?

A petition at least, if not an investigation into corruption in the department involved.

What are you basing this assumption on? Was it the first thing that popped into your head?

The official line is that there are no plans to blanket de-register post-1700 monuments, just that there is 'a review' taking place because in some areas (notably Cork County) there are more of these monuments recorded (partly because it was the latest survey to be carried out) than in others. The Minister therefore wants to figure out the best route to take with regard to protection, as the Record of Protected Structures only really works for town & city councils, and not county. Either way, the Legislation is changing, as a new, consolidated National Monuments Act is on the horizon.

The IAI Board are in discussions with the Minister and his team, on both matters, and have offered their expertise to the review panel
