    Hi,

I have the opportunity to do a surfing lesson and i want to make sure is it safe to surf or better to avoid.
I have bottom braces on last year and the top just last week and its a thin wire like a training wire before the thicker wire go on in six weeks.

My gut is saying avoid cos of possible of bashing my teeth on board in the waves but i never surf so Im probably think the worst what could happen.

I already stop horse-riding until braces off cos thats unpredictable cos of falls or hitting teeth off horse neck, etc...

What sport activites do you avoid and what safe.

Should i consider specialist sport mouth guard for braces or just take a break form contact sport to be safe.

Thanks for any comment or expereinces good or bad in advance :)

Sharks can smell braces from over 100miles away, stay out of the water!!!

As long as you don't mind picking the seaweed out after ?
Ring your dentist and ask them. Its a 2 min phonecall.
The tinternet is no place for reliable medical advice.
    Good luck with the sports.

just kidding you'd be very unlucky to bang your teeth off the board, head maybe but teeth are unlikely. Also most surf lessons are on foam boards so will be soft enough

Op, I cant imagine surfing is going to have any effect on them. Theres always a risk you can bach your mouth of the board, rock, shark etc but you take that risk doing any sport.
Regarding the salt water, i'm sure one of ou helpful dentists will advise!

Unfortunately, you risk your teeth doing most sports, your risk is no more or less if you have braces, you can wear a gum-shield made over the braces if you like depending on the type of sport...
You can't put your life on hold just because you have braces, do your horse-riding, surfing etc... just be careful, you'll need to be careful of your nice straight teeth when the braces are off anyway...
