Yeah, that's what I want to hear. A self-absorbed w*nker talking about the most pretentious genre of music out there (IMO). :p

Everyone has their own opinion on Lars and Metallica, however i am posting this just to inform anyone that might be interested in listening in.

That's cool, but it is a forum so people will probably add their own views to the thread as it grows.

As someone who does have an interest in jazz I won't be tuning in to listen to Lars tell us about yet another thing that he was "always" a major fan of, and how he grew up listening to it.

No doubt the guy who once claimed that as a kid he bought nowt but NWOBHM albums will soon be telling us how he grew up listening to Lou Reed albums once he is done talking about his lifelong love of jazz.:D

BTW it is very easy to have one view on how Lars comes across as a person, and a totally different one on Metallica the band.

Lars is a stand up guy, I wouldn't mind playing in a band with someone like him, it would be constant entertainment!

I'm figuring we can adapt that to make the "Generic Lars Ulrich Quote Generator" (TM).

"Ohhh jaaa, ****in <insert well known artist/band>, ****in love that <Band/group>, remember being up the ****in front for his ****in gig in <Randomly generated European City>in <Very Late 70's/Early 80's date>, he ****in <random musical referrence>, first time I heard him it was like someone <Bodily function>...."

In fairness to him his Godfather is jazz musician Dextor Gordon and he actually did grow up with it,his father was also a jazz musician aside from being a tennis player, artist and Gandalf impersonator.

I bet lombardo can out-jazz him too

Gandalf impersonator?! :pac:, I'm betting Lars was the Frodo cum Gollum impersonator!

That's a bit much.... Their live shows are pretty awesome when firing on all cyliniders. It's a pity Lars is a lazy bastard though!

I know it might be a spot of blasphemy but if Metallica kicked Lars for another drummer would the entire dynamic be changed? A bit of energy added?

Metallica with a drummer like Bostoph or Benante would be awesome imho.

Or just get Dave... Could you imagine Lombardo playing Dyers Eve?

Or even that simple double bass roll after the first verse in Blackened?

I do agree about Benante he's a fantastic drummer, very underrated.

Watched Bostaph play on the slayer "war at the warfield" dvd, wasn't overly impressed though to be fair that slayer drum gig in insanely tough.

I say Tom Hunting or Gene Hoglan would be fine additions to Metallica! Imagine Hoglan ripping the drums on Battery or Fight Fire with Fire? Mental!

Ah to be fair to Gene I don't think that'd be his scene oddly enough. Listen to his work on the last Fear Factory album... the chap is a hero.

Stop he's the boss, though if ye ever heard his stuff with Testament and Tenet? I don't think he'd be wasted on Metallica.

More of the other way around; that they would be wasted on him. Not the band to show off his talents. Metallica work well as a some of their parts, not as individual musical geniuses (though I firmly believe James Hetfield is the best rhythm guitartist on the planet)

Benante is a very underrated drummer alright. Some of the drum clinics he did in the US were amazing. When John Bush was with Anthrax they used to do a lot of live covers from early Maiden Albums, the first four Metallica albums, various Thin Lizzy songs, and some Pantera and the drumming sounding amazing on them.

Bostaph I think you might be doing a disservice. Some of his drumming with Forbidden was really excellent, and his time with Exodus and Testament have produced some stunning live drumming. Would not put him in Lombardo's league, but then again not many are.

Their previous album, The Formation of Damnation, is well worth picking up as well. It had Skolnick returning to the fold and was Bostaph's first album with the band.

Bugger, the Testament album release date has been put back to Febuary 2012 :(

Guess your right... I'd be a big lombardo fan so I guess I'm holding him to his standards. That testament album was excellent was only listening to it in the car the other day. Did you listen to any of the stuff he did with the truth about seafood?
