The glovebox on my 2005 mitsubishi colt 3 door doesnt close. Its a common fault..but there is no common solution. And this is not a common car so im not expecting any solutions.

I think a mitsubishi dealer would charge 150-200 euro to fix this so looking for a cheap solution...

I have tried using bluetack, and sh1tty little adhesive north&south magnets to no avail.

I was thinking of some heavy duty adhesive magnets...might do it.. where could i buy these??

I have tried ebay and amazon and so on and they absolute rrape you with postage charges.

    Velcro tape ;)
Bit sh1tty looking but will do the job, two straps of it across the closed box, peel it back to open :o

Alternativly, drill a hole where the box should clasp on the hook, rope a cable tie around the hook and then poke that through the drilled hole, slip a U shaped yoke through the cable tie then (sterio release key type thing) and tighten up the cable tie, then to open the box, pull out the u shaped thing and twill open. To close it then you'll just have to thread the cable tie through the drilled hole and then slip the U thing through the tie, simple (ish)

I had the same problem in the Volvo, had to cut the glovebox open.
First I tried velcro, but it would slowly open up during driving. Enough velcro to make the glovebox secure would make it too hard to open!

I then used a normal door magnet (any hardware shop) which has worked out grand. You need to mount the magnet and/or receiver so there's a little play, allowing the two parts to come fully into contact when you close the door. Happy days :D

    Hope this helps.

If you have a really old PC that you do not mind taking the hard drive apart you can get one or mostly two really strong Neodymium magnets. Failing that if you are anywhere near Bray you can come and collect a few from me.
