    I am getting on of these when I get paid from work

    Is there a pci card that I can put in it to record Freesat tv programs ect.
    I was thinking of putting it under the stairs but think it will be to difficult to get a sat feed to there.

    I plan to run Ubuntu Server on it and use it as a media server for my HTPC running Ubuntu 10.10 with XBMC.

    I know I have to put a twin LNB on my Sky dish so I can keep using my humax freesat box.

    I use a TBS 6920 PCI-E DVB-S2 TV Tuner Card myself, which works perfectly. But only has a single tuner, I am now looking to purchase the TBS6981 that has the dual tuner.

    Is that card Half height half length as I noticed that is what is described in the HP teck specs.

    1 half-height, half-length PCIe x16 Gen 2;
    1 half-height, half-length PCIe x1 Gen 2

    This makes no sence to me except it a smaller card

    sounds like fu ckall will fit in it and you'll be using usb tuners. If using usb tuners make sure that theres good linux drivers available before purchase.

    Expansion slots1 half-height, half-length PCIe x16 Gen 2;
    1 half-height, half-length PCIe x1 Gen 2

    I just posted similar, The thing to make sure is that teh card has good ubuntu support. The linuxtv wiki lists devices that are guaranteed to work.

    http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Category:Hardware

    Devices not listed here can and do work but its often a pain and unles you're familiar with writing or editing drivers in linux or want to spend hrs researching I'd say make things easy for yourself and get one thats already supported.

    I almost bought one of these too, but decided on the HP Proliant ML110 G6 which was only about 50 Euro more, but can accommodate full length cards, have processor upgrades, etc.

    I have the TBS6981 in it under Mythbuntu 11.04. You have to compile and install the drivers yourself, but not difficult if you follow the step-by-steps available.

    The only thing I'd say is that it is noisy starting up, but if it's under the stairs it won't matter ;)

    Is this the one you got?

    Sounds like a plan to me.

    Do you have a link to a guide about the drivers, thanks

    It was this one.

    Driver step-by-step

    I ended up getting more RAM as the kids wanted to run a Minecraft server on it that took up 1Gb :eek: I went with a 4Gb module, but need to load a PAE kernel or move to 64-bit to make full use of it.

    I haven't worked out how to permanently include drivers as part of kernel upgrade, so if your /sys/dvb directories disappear after an upgrade you know what has happened ;) Just do a 'make release', 'make', 'make install' and they get linked in again.
