I'm 5'11" and weigh about 12 stone. I'm fairly thin except for the past few months I've put on what could be best described as a bit of a "beer belly". I've been going regular to the gym for the past month. I'm trying to build muscle so mainly I've been lifting weights. Just wondering if someone here could advise what I should be doing in the gym to best reduce this belly fat?

Post up your average weekday + sat/sun diet.

Lay off the beer for a few weeks anyway? And throw in some interval training at the end of your weight training! Helped me to shift the last of my gut earlier this year! even 15 minutes of high intensity cardio at the end of every workout will help to burn some fat!

totally agree with this I find high intensity cardio such as sprinting or boxing for short periods of time is the best way to burn fat without losing muscle mass, unfortunately it usually takes more than a month to get rid of a beer gut, when ever I lose weight its from the shoulders down the spare tyre is the last place to go, so keep up the training and be patient, also im not sure what your diet is like but try 3 to 4 cups of green tea every day also take omega 3 caps once a day and if you take protein shakes drop in a tablespoon of flax seed oil, all these products will help speed up your metabolism

Not exactly following routine as far as my diet is concerned. Usually a few eggs for breakfast, chicken and potatoes/chips/veg for lunch, meat and veg again for dinner and some snacks/yogart inbetween. Also a protein shake in the morning and after a workout. Sorry I cant really provide better details!

What type of training would you recommend? I like the rowing machine or bikes but not really a fan of the treadmill.

Not a fan of green tea but I'll give the other suggestions a go!

No I'm not following a program. Mainly what Im doing is bench presses and lifting dumbbells, and also on the gym ball to work on the abdominal region. I have been seeing an improvement in my build so I must be doing something right! Just need to get rid of the gut!

A program isn't always necessary if you know what you're doing in your head. It's better to change the exercises you do to gain optimal results - instead of doing the same exercises for weeks.

If you are new to training, you could of seen progress doing anything. A structured program would defo see you getting better results.

It's a lot easier to make sure you cover all areas if you have a program planned out. My program is in my head. But its still a structured program
