A big thanks to Paulo6.5 for lining up my first Sika Deer. Finished work at 5am, up the mountain for dawn. Saw loads of Sika females. Heard this guy whistling, got to within 170 yards and got a nice relaxed prone shot. Much smaller than I imagined, although I was told mine was a good enough size. I know very little of Sika, but I hope that will change with the permissions Paulo has. Thanks again Paulo. I owe U one.175146.jpg

Well done tackelberry. Nice looking animal- a bit smaller than those big fallows you normally shoot still for their size they're very hardy.
    Good work

Well done Tack and fair play to Paul for taking you out. Lovely sika, smaller than the fallow but twice as tough.

All I can give is my experiences. Any deer I necked headshot dropped. The last heart lung fallow I shot ran ~

15 yards with his lung exposed out his rib. I can only discuss what I experienced. Hopefully I will get a few more before the seasons out to compare. Although being awake for 27 hours was not fun. Need to get trophy mounted tomorrow after work tonight :-(

Tack just wondering what way you were having it mounted and any guide on price?

Price is a weeks wages for me

I took the entire cape off, so I am getting it mounted that way.
I could have got it mounted shorter, but I want it to look it's best, and the Sika had a full mane so I want to do it justice

You might post a few pics when you get it back. I'm sure you have a spot on the wall already picked out. Well done again but just remember it will cost at least another weeks wages again if you bag the Red you'r after:D

I'm probably going to give the head as a Christmas prezzie to someone as I had promised them one.

I'd only mount a trophy red, and I don't think I'd want to carry one down off the mountain. A red spiker is good enough for me.

Fair play Tack, not many people I would give a present of the equivelent of a weeks wages to. I hope they appreciate it. Was there much of a drag back to the jeep? Did Paulo help? or was it the - "you shot it you drag it" crack....

Paulo to be fair had to go to work, so it was, you skin it and Butcher it up to divy out to the boys.

He was a drag down hill so not much hardship, they are lighter than some of the fallow I have shot so no Major deal.

I had to drag most of the deer I shot in my time by myself, so it is always nice to have help; especially someone who knows the drill.

Would your Permissions be N,S,E,W Donegal ?

Would I have to bring my own means of Field Butchering or do you have a place to butcher?
I was planning making a Hoist for a towbar but I have not got around to getting the steel yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭Mauser 308

They seem to have a built in calander. This time of year you would be tripping over them and would have them alerting stags I was stalking. But then come Nov 1 they all go in into hiding.

ah... to put that correctly. yes i did help you drag that down the hill and then up the drive to where WE picked it up and brought it over to the shed and hung it together and then i went to work
