I was looking at the vid of Google's self driving car, and thought that if this ever makes it into mass production every taxi driver, bus driver and chauffeur is going to be out of a job.

So what do you see happening in the next 20 years regarding automation? Are there any 'safe' jobs that are futureproof?

Machines are capable of performing many tasks that humans have in the past been required to do. But that doesn't mean the market is always ready for the machine's role. For example, even though planes could potentially fly themselves these days, most people would outright refuse to board a plane without a pilot in the cockpit.

I would say tech support but half of them have automated "turning it off and on" responses already

The year is 2025. Robots have replaced many semi-skilled jobs and labourers.
From basic building work to farming, delivery drivers and retail sales. Each of these machines communicates automatically with each other. Ensuring humans get their' wants.

One day a Java programmer invents and apathy virus............

Hehe, but its not unreasonable to believe this might happen.

The production lines for most goods are automated, except in places where its cheaper to employ people. I buy everything except clothes and food online, and hey, even if passenger planes are piloted by people, commercial planes might not be.

It might be bordering on paranoia, but I'd say there's going to be a huge amount of job losses as more commercial sectors are automated.

It'll happen. My bank branch now has a set of automated cashiers for deposits. If Siemens invents a good looking robot with tits then I might actually start using their machines. Other wise I'm queuing for human cashiers.

Ahhhh but will it give me the same level of idiotic opinions, casual racism and ill founded sense of entitlement? Back to the drawing board poindexter.
