...if anyone is selling one second hand, before I buy one from Thomann. Also, if anyone has any suggestions regarding an alternative...I'd love to hear it! :)

    an akg d112 with
all the mids pulled down by about 30 db ,
a shelf at 60 hz boosted by 10 db
and a shelf at 5k bossted by 10 db.

    would get you very close.:pac:

The D6 is the way to go. Amazingly it doesn't seem to mind where in the drum it goes... U get pretty much the right sound anyway!

You could try a Peavy PVM520 if you can find one. They are really cheap and excellent for bass drum. They have a really light but strong diaphragm and a good low end response making them excellent for percussion. A real sleeper, another excellent kick microphone is the Beyer dynamic M88. Compared to the D112, D12, RE20 I'd rate either of the two first.

agree... the m88 gives a nice slap...

but the best sound comes from ANY of the above when the drummer can play.

I'd rather record a great drummer with argos mics than a chump with all the best kit in the world.
