Hi I have an implant supported over denture fitted about two months now and it is loose to the point of falling out. I had this job done in Ireland, but I am abroad at present and wonder is there anything I can do with it. I went to a Dentist this morning in France and he could do nothing. I would appreciate your help with this as I do not want to return to Ireland before November.

Find a prosthodontist in France, there should be a few in any major city they will have all the gear needed to fix a overdenture. Do you know the type of attachment? Locators, ERAs, Bar and clip, CEKA etc (long shot I know), are there little circular coloured caps inside your denture (clear, pink, blue, green, blue?). Give us more information or ideally a picture of the underside of the denture.....

It's a bar and clip. What do you think the problem is?.

Most likely a fractured clip in the denture or the clip has come loose from the denture, usually its nothing to do with the bar. This is extremely difficult to fix without taking the denture and bar out and sending them to the lab for a few days. Best thing would be to return to the original dentist ASAP as they will have the master models.

Use denture adhesive in the meantime to stablise the denture. Get this seen to soon as wearing the denture loose long term can damage the bar or stress out individual implants.

I have gotten away from bar over-dentures in my own practice for this reason, the maintenance is frequent and difficult.
