Hi my missus is 30 in November. I was hoping to take her away for a holiday for it but have no idea where to go. Was hoping for somewhere different than the canaries etc. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Ideally somewhere reasonably warm with a bit of sightseeing, plenty to do but also the option to chill out. Not big on nightlife except some good restaurants.
Hoping for 10-14 nights. Have bout 2400 euro to spend on flights and accommodation for both of us.
Was thinking of a cruise or playa del Carmen Mexico so far but can't decide and was hoping for others opinions or suggestions.
    Thanks

"Warm in November" means you will have to go chasing the sun, it tends to abandon the northern hemisphere this time of year. Excluding the canaries, the closest locations I can think of would be Egypt if you go East or Florida/Caribbean in the other direction. Otherwise you're looking at a flight time in excess of 7hrs which might be excessive for a 30th trip when you factor in jet lag and cost etc.

I'd avoid Northern Mexico tbh, it's horrifically violent over there now, the south would be fantastic but is that bit further away again.

The world literally is your oyster with €2.5k to spend.

I would go with a cruise :) I just booked one today for my 30th next May. You could fly to Florida and go on an Eastern or Western Caribbean cruise, and maybe spend a few nights somewhere after the cruise, maybe Miami or St Petersburg. Cruises are great, and most food is included, and it is great, like a 5 star restaurant in my opinion. And you could get the birthday girl some nice jewellry depending on where you go, St Thomas is great for deals. I've done the Eastern route twice and the Western once, all with Royal Caribbean and I would personally prefer the Eastern. If you've any questions just give me a shout :)

@ savman- violent in north Mexico as in cancun and playa del carmen?
Flight time doesn't bother me too bad as long as it's not ridiculous.
    Had thought about egypt alright.
Did las Vegas and Orlando last year and loved both. Considering it's a special occasion I suppose we should do something different.
I like the idea of a cruise but a bit sceptical. Are they an enjoyable holiday?

Not familiar with Playa del Carmen tbh, I think Cancun is trouble free but all reports I've read suggests it does get swamped with the college kids/party brigade. You don't want your missus feeling old :D

Can't go wrong with Vegas tbh, but if you've already been then you'd just be going back for more of the same. Likewise with Orlando, even though there is plenty to keep you busy I don't think want that 'samey' feeling - especially not while you have a great chance to see somewhere/something new.

Cruise is something I haven't done yet, it's not everybody's cup of tea so it might not be ideal for a trip like this (you can always do this in a couple of years when you have exhausted all the regular spots). Keep us posted whatever you do!

In my opinion, cruises are a really enjoyable and different type of holiday. I went on my first cruise when I was 23, and I thought it was going to be full of OAP's, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I have only ever gone cruising with Royal Caribbean so my only experience is of their ships, but there is so much to do (on the bigger ships) that you probably wont even get around to doing everything. And, the price of all food (with the exception of speciality restaurants) is included, so you just have to budget for drinks, gifts etc. Its also a great way to see different places without having to unpack your bag every couple of nights! You could do a hotel stay pre or post cruise, we usually go somewhere elso post cruise due to the fact that any shopping we do, we dont want to be bringing it onboard with us.
