Have you the correct driving licence for you motor caravan

There is lots of info on the web about the change in the UK licence which took place on 1st. January 1997, but nothing about the change here and this sometimes confuses people who often assume, as it was a EU driven change, we all changed at the same time.

BUT, do you know that the change took place here in the good ould RoI on 13th. November 1989.

So, what does all this mean.

Well if you passed your car driving test AFTER 13th. November 1989 you will not have category C1 (>3,500kg) :(

If you passed your 'car' driving test before that date your are entitled to C1, plus other stuff, under 'grandfather rights' :D

But, if you failed to have C1 etc. included at renewal in the meantime and they have been off your licence for over 10 years then they will be lost

So the message is, check your licence, if you passed your test before 13th. November 1989, and C1 is not on your current licence get it back on before its too late
