ESB Appliance Calculator App for iPhone and Android

Downloaded this App for Android over the weekend seem to be pretty accurate going by my bills. I was surprised by a few of my appliances being big energy users even while on stand-by. One question I have is in relation to CFL bulbs as opposed to standard bulbs, was comparing the two to see how much I would save by converting completely to CFL bulbs, but according to the App they use the same amount of energy.
    Ordinary Light Bulb 8 x 80w @ 20 hrs/week = €16.24
    Fluorescent (CFL) 8 x 80w @ 20 hrs/week = €16.24

    Just wondering is this accurate.

    Good App overall, well recommended.

    Hi nursextreme,

CFL bulbs would normally have 20-30% of the wattage of an average incandescent bulb. So, for example, a 75w bulb would usually equate to an 18-25w CFL bulb. For 8 bulbs at 20 hours a week, that would probably work out somewhere in the region of 3-4 euro.

Great to hear that you are finding the application useful :)

If you have further questions please ask.

    Regards,
    Mark

Thanks Mark, Spot on the bulbs I have are 20 w CFL equivalent to 88 W conventional bulbs. That's a good saving! Must invest in a few more :)

You don't necessarily need the latest version for it to work; as far as I'm aware the Samsung Galaxy Europa runs on version 2.1. If you can confirm this for me I can pass it on to our tech support team.

    Thanks,

    David.
