Bargain Alert: New Xoro Mpeg4 (Saorview) HD DTT Box - €65 Ballina, County Mayo

Hi just wanted to let you know Homeworld in Crossmolina Road have these Xoro HDMI USB& PVR Ready Set Top Boxes in Stock for only 65.00 Euro. Plug an external hard drive and turns it into a PVR - you have time shifting and recording. I have even had it working with a memory stick (might not be able to fit much on a memory stick though) you can play music and Jpg photos through the USB, and as far as I know (havent tested it fully yet) but you can play avi or mpg from a memory stick or a hard drive. First of all they are not Saorview boxes. They are not Saorview approved and nothing to do with Saorview and shouldnt be sold as such. They are also NOT a bargain. If they were €29, okay, but they arent.

They are TNT HD boxes for the French Market. They do not have MHEG5 for TEXT/Interactive services as a result. They have MHP which is the middleware used abroad but not here.

And it is madness for the price they are charging compared to what they are available for in France. You can buy an approved Saorview Box in Argos for €50 these days.

If you wanted something with extra facilities (such as play MKV's AVIs as well) you can buy a Peekton Mediascop 100 from one of the French sites for less than that price of that Single tuner Xoro (about €45 in France) which also contains a DOUBLE tuner. Again MHEG5 will not be available on these boxes which may not be of concern to everyone. If you are going to buy an imported box at least get something worthwhile with functionality that isnt available here (Media play and Double Tuner).

There is a heated discussion going on in another thread concerning this very box being described as a Saorview box. It isnt a Saorview approved box. It will pick up the stations however, but its functionality is limited. Price vs functionality = bargain.
