Does anyone know why a Mondeo LX 1798 petrol would loose compression after 1 week idle. The engine is serviced every 10,000km not burning any oil has 110,00 mls on clock and is as sweet an engine as you ever heard. It was idle for a week and when i went to start it,it sounded like the timing belt was gone but there are no timing belts in the said engine. So why would it do such a thing?.Can anybody enlighten me on the situ.Bogs.:)

    What year is the mondeo?

Assuming that it's a chain rather than a belt, could the hydraulic tensioner be on it's way out, in that over the week the oil drained out of it and now the chain is slack??

Just me thinking out loud... I might well be wrong.

What makes you say it's lost compression? Are all fluids ok? Will it run?

Is there any possibility the engine is flooded. Maybe started while engine was cold and switched off too soon.

When you say its lost compression, have you actually done a compression or leak down test or will it just not start?

If its lost compression and its the MK3 mondeo they were prone to swirl flap failure so its possible the engine may have ingested parts if they failed.
