I'm heading over to Sydney just in time for Christms and im wondering if anyone knows of accommodation rather than hostels to stay in? I've tried looking on craigs List for renting an apartment or room for 3 weeks but Craigs list shows only things for rent now and I obviously want to have something booked before I leave since everywhere will be so busy that time of year....
Has anyone experience of booking accommodation or any links to share?? any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks :)

hey have you checked out gumtree? its usually pretty good. but if you cant find something i would book a bed in a hostel as back up because they fill up quickly. and hostels are great around that time, they have all kind of nights and dinners organised.

get your accommodation sorted asap dude, i wouldn't be surprised if most of it is booked up already. there are a few hostels around the place, we stayed in teh yha which was really nice and we also stayed in one just off campbell parade (main beach st) on lamrock st and unless its gone through a major revamp i'd keep away from it, manky place. check out smh.com.au for listings but you'll probably have to rent somewhere for a full month if you get any place at all. landlords know they can rent out their places no problem at that time of year and due to the knackerish behaviour of some backpackers they are slow to rent places in the short-term.

Be original and not stay in Bondi!

OP - 0407... might have a point there will be a lot better accommodation (cheaper) around, and is still pretty accessible to bondi.
Bondi is the number 1 destination and will be very hard to get (and expensive)

And on top of that, there are far better places to see in Sydney than County Bondi!

Care to give a suggestion, personally if it was me i'd want to be quite near the beach, so any of the 5 or 6 great beachs out that direction would do me.

Why would be be limited to seeing bondi when he is staying there? Transport is sydney is pretty good. The places around the city are going to be all full and expensive.
I've seen signs for the BYE concert on bondi beach and its cleary going to be a great night.

Personally if it was me, and I was travelling half way around the world at Christmas time, spending a small fortune to be there, I think I'd rather spend that time in a place that wasn't full of obnoxious drunk GAA jersey wearing mulchies, or your typical Premier League lager louts from Bradford called Rodney! Can get all that at home no problem, for a tiny fraction of the cost. Maybe that's just me though.

and yet you still didn't offer an alternative
Bondi is what you make it, head into Ravesi's or icebergs with a GAA or EPL jersey on and see if you can get in.

Yes it can attract backpackers, but also has one of the best and famous beaches in the world.
There are thousands of people who live in bondi who would never dream of going near the cock and bull / tea gardens.

Mod Anyway back on track the OP wants accom in bondi - not a list of reasons why he should stay away, feel free to list alternatives

Manly Beach. Far nicer place with a nicer beach.

Ah now! One of the most famous, yes. One of the best? You have to be kidding me. Brazil, Western Australia, Hawaii are places where you will find the best beaches in the world. If by best you mean, most comercialised, and packed with tourists and backpackers then Bondi is the best

To answer the OP's original question, go with Gumtree, searching in the short term section for accomodation.

Yes, that's a fair call, that sums up Bondi beach in my eyes (but not everyone's)

No need for the condescending rolleyes please

It's up to you want you want to do. Nobody is asking you to go there. But theres no need to insult other for wanting to do that. Rather ironic that you call others obnoxious based on where live or choose to go.

And as mentioned, Bondi is a big place, you wouldn't get near a lot of places (like Icebergs) as described above.

This attitude pops up all the time. I don't understand it.
People come to Australia for lots of reasons, some choose to live away from the masses, other choose to live in an irish populated area. I don't see what gives anyone the right to sneer at somebody over this choice. Is it suggesting that one person is better than the other because of their choice. That's kinda pathetic imo.

Some people came to Oz quite comfortabably, have no problem being around the world, and as such have no problem living anywhere.
Some people came to oz as they had few other options, they rather live with/near other irish as they've more in common and its comforting to these people.
To each their own, i don't get why anyone judges people on this.

Just to be clear, this isn't aimed specifically at you 04072511. That mentality pops up here all the time. I just don't like it, nor do I see the need for it.
Also, i find it pretty funny that the people, complaining about those who "come halfway around the world and don't get away from the irish", fail to see the irony in using boards.ie to complain.
