hi lads and ladies, first time post here, after years of putting it off ive finally decided to get down to the body i really want, and i need some diet advice as nutrition is something im absolutely useless at,

i currently stand at 5ft 9 inches tall, and weigh in 104kg(down from 107), ive been goin to the gym for the last 2 weeks to get some exercise in, and i must say im loving it, i dont really eat much of anything whatsoever, but ive cut out absolutely anything bad, ive stopped drinking, and stopped smoking. no heres where i need help, i usually start off the day with a bowl of porridge with a teaspoon of jam for flavour, and have one big meal around 6 o clock which i has consisted of brown rice, egg, veg, a glass of water, and if im hungry in the evening ill have some wholemeal bread (2 pan slices) buttered with low fat spread and a glass of water.i also enjoy the odd apple or 2 during the day.

basically i want to lose weight through exercise and watching my calorie intake, do you think my current diet will suffice? i only eat this much as im not particularly hungry, and also im so worried about putting the weight back on that id be afraid to eat anything else for fear its the wrong thing to be helping me , but at the same time i dont wanna starve myself of the nutrition i need to exercise properly, any advice would be greatly appreciated as i wanna do this once and for all,
    thanks

    jerry:)

No, that's not a good diet. You have no significant protein in there, and if you are cutting calories, you need to make sure you are getting enough protein and fat, and use the carbs to fill the gaps.

It's virtually impossible to lose significant weight through exercise alone. You need to combine with a good diet.

Basically diet is what makes you lose the weight, exercise is what makes you look good naked.

Well done on your decision to make positive changes in your life. Good Luck! :)
Now, I'm not nutritional expert by any means and there are a lot of guys more qualified on boards that I'm sure will give you some advise but for me your diet isn't great at all.
You should be trying to eat 5-6 small meals per day. This will be better for your metabolism and will keep you fuller throughout the day and will help stop you getting over hungry at any time which usually leads to making bad choices.

Try to eat protein with each meal and reduce your carb intake. Eat fruit and veg throughout the day (80% veg/20% fruit) and make sure you eat 'good fats', your body will need them to lose excess weight. Be careful of the fruit you eat because some can be high in fructose that won't help you in your weight loss quest.

Don't go hungry and don't be too hard on yourself. You need to make changes that you can live with so if there are foods that you just can't do without don't give them up entirely, just make them an occasional treat.
    Hope this helps ;)
