My 2001 has over 165k miles on the clock. Looks and drives like a car half its ages and miles :)

Mine is the 136 bhp model.

Looks alright in fairness, if the seller is genuine and has actually owned it a few years it could be a good buy, for a good lash less than €2800 though ;)

The 320d changed in sept 2001, 136 bhp before then, and 150 bhp after that. The early 150 bhp cars are known for turbo issues/swirl flaps etc, a quick google will bring up loads of information on it.

Easiest way of telling the pre face lift 136 bhp from the face lifted 150 bhp is the front indicators, the pre face lift sweep down, where as the face lift sweep up. Also the side repeaters on the prefacelift are lower down, closer to the bump strips, the facelift are higher up, almost the same height up as the door handles.

    136 bhp is 1951cc 100 kW
    150 bhp is 1995cc 110 kW

Yeah was thinking of bringing a mechanic with me just waiting to hear back from him

On the e46 the balljoints at the front wear out very quickly, as does the front bushings. New balljoints require new wishbones as they are one piece, so listed for any rattles up front if you take it for a test drive/look uneven tyre wear at front. If there were gone i wouldnt let me be put off, but its could be used as a bargaining tool.

Try to figure out if he serviced it on time. Turbo problems are mostly down to people not servicing them when they should. Correct fully synth oil should be used and also the turbo breather should be changed on or before schedule. --just re read the ad, says full service history.

If the engine temp. is slow to rise, or drops from the middle position once warm then it could be thermostat gone, replaced mine recently, not a major job but something to bear in mine and is a common enough part to replace on these.

Thanks for the advice I just reread the ad lol, the tyres were just changed for the NCT which it has passed till 2013 my mechanic is a bit fiffy about the high mileage but there cant be much wrong with the car seen as it has passed the NCT he will have a look at it for me but at least I now know what sounds to listen for, thanks :)

I'd have a read of this thread first.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056373660&page=2

    In particular these posts:

I remember myself looking at that ad when it was worded slightly differently. Personally, I'd avoid, but haven't seen the car myself or talked to the seller.
