We have a number of old photos on glass, some are quite faded. Can anybody tell me if its possible to transfer them to digital pics or what can I do to make them more viewable,

    Thanks

Hmm.. glass plates can be scanned for sure, but some of them are incredibly delicate, depending on their age and the process that was used to make them. I'd be inclined to suggest you bring them somewhere rather than trying it yourself. I know Fire (just off south circular road in dublin) do high end scanning. It might be expensive.. There's a woman just opened an exhibition of her wet plate collodion plates, a lot of which she's scanned, who might be able to give advice too if you email her? I'll see if i can dig up her website tomorrow (on the phone now), but if you google collodion exhibition Bray you might find her.

I'd love to see the images you get :)

    Thanks Sinead,

If I can get them transferred, I'll post the good one. Some are very dull, but one or two are reasonable. I would think that they are from Cork City.

I've scanned a lot of glass negatives in the past. They can be a bit tricky, but they can give you really amazing results.
I've never dealt with positives on glass. It will be interesting to see the results.

    Hi Heebi

Can you advise on how I can go about scanning the glass pictures if they are negatives. I would love to see what they look like.
