Broken PS3

    Hi,

I have a PS3 (40gb) that was broken 2 years ago. I'm fairly sure the laser thing is broken, it doesn't read any discs. I've literally forgotten about it since.

Just wondering if it is currently worth anything, or if I can get it fixed cheaply as I don't see the point of getting Sony to fix it for €160 or so

You can get a 160GB PS3 for 199 in HMV, not sure if that was a short term deal or what.

No point in spending 160 for a refurb from sony, that price may drop as right not it makes no sense.

Getting your PS3 fixed from someone other than sony would be cheaper at €80-€100, or doing it yourself for €60 or below for the part.

If it's been broken for 2 year you probably have not missed it or replaced it but i'm not sure i'd bother unless you're broke and can't get a new one or had a 60GB that needed fixing.

Thanks for the response. I only thought of it today when people were talking about downloading the Fifa 12 demo and it hit me that I can probably still do that. Have they brought out a function yet whereby you can download entire games and play without having to use the disc?

There are a good few originally disc games you can get off PSN, here's a list of full PS3 games that can be gotten off PSN.

I got a new laser off E-bay for about 70 euros and replaced it myself. It can be done if your handy with a screwdriver. Plenty of how to vids on youtube
