confusion around Freeview & Freeview HD

    hi all,

as the title suggests i'm a bit confused.
i was under the impression that, in order to receive Saorview, a Freeview HD tuner was required.
That a Freeview tuner itself was not good enough to get Saorview.

So just taking these two tv's for example
Sony c520 argos also here c520 on sony site
    &
Sony c523 argod also here Sony c523 Sony site

the c523 had an extra DVB-T2 (digital terrestrial) over the c520.

So, seemingly, both tv's can get Saorview,
but is it right to say that the c520 wont be able to display the full hd 1080 quality of matches etc that are being broadcast every now and again?

As i said i thought we had to get a tv that had a Freeview HD tuner here to get the best out of Saorview, or am i missing something completely obvious here.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but i couldn't find anything dealing with what i'm asking,

as a final note, if any one has one of these sets what are they like?

A Saorview certified tv will support every feature of the Saorview spec. There are plenty available now, so only get Freeview HD if you live in an area that receives terrestrial UK signals.

Freeview HD compatible HDTV = DVB-T2 + MPEG4 : also receives Freeview (SD) and Saorview

    Saorview compatible HDTV = DVB-T + MPEG4 : also receives Freeview (SD)

Freeview only compatible HDTV = DVB-T + MPEG2 : only receives Freeview (SD)

Many TV models on the market in the last 2-3 years have MPEG4 and are capable of receiving Saorview. However they are marketed in the UK as Freeview only because they do not have DVB-T2 necessary for Freeview HD.

    However set-boxes are different.
There are no Freeview Setboxes that work with Saorview. But all "Freeview HD" setboxes "work" to varying degrees with Saorview.

Unless you can receive UK / NI Freeview better to have a Saorview box than "Freeview HD". But there are no true PVRs yet for Saorview. So a "Freeview + HD PVR" might be an option. But they vary in just how easy they are to use on Saorview.
