Rattle from timing chain?

I started hearing a rattle in my w208 clk, upon further inspection the rattle/shuffle sound appears to be coming from the timing chain or somewhere in the front of the engine area.

Iv read about tensioners and various other things.

Anyone have any ideas, could the timing chain be about to go

Belts wouldnt make a rattle noise its hard really to tell without seeing it. Try reving the car slightly to see if it goes? But generally when the timing chain gets noisey it has become warn and would need to be changed to protect against bending valves etc.

When the car is started try putting pressure on stuff around where the rattle is coming from heatsheild etc to see if its something as simple as that.

Maybe not so much a rattle but a rhythmic shuffle noise which is why my 1st guess was timing chain. Could be any of the belts tho.

The auxiliary belt tensioners can fail on those and can be noisy/rattley when they start.

Chain/tensioner failures or wear wouldn't be common on those engines.

Sure drop up when your free some day..

Thanks Doc, ill see if its continues to be noisy after awhile.

Can be hard to tell if the noise is still there while driving as other noises can make it hard to distinguish.
