Off season training

I'm making a training plan for the winter and I'm interested in what people do. First I'll take a break of around 3 weeks with some active rest and some alternative activities, maybe some surfing or golf or just lying on the couch. I have quite a few niggles to try to heal up.

Then back to basic training. I'm looking forward to a solid off-season for the first time in years. A big focus of mine wll be to try to "injury-proof" my back, knees and feet.

I'm planning to do tris again next year and hopefully a Half IM but if injuries allow, I'd love to try my first marathon in the spring.

What's your approach to the winter? What do you focus on? Do you concentrate on one sport for a while or try to keep a balance? Do you overhaul your swim technique? Focus on the gym? Take a long break? Train hard all the way through?

Sounds good :P I did take two weeks off there in August, but thats it! Into cross country season now! Marathons and IM are nowhere on the radar for me though, and I'm very lucky not to be effected by injury much!
