    Well lads,

I'm looking to get a new laptop as the current one is about to conk out.

I have around 420 to spend. I know that's not a lot, but could you recommend a good laptop in that price range?

I'll be looking to play the odd game (Football Manager etc) so would need a good processor (or would I? I haven't a clue). How's the i3 processor; any use?

    Cheers.

An i3 will run FM just fine. This ASUS isa pretty good price and about as good as you will get for your budget IMO, it is a last generation i3-370m but is fractionally more powerful than the newer i3-2310m for example(the 2310m main advantages are lower power consuption and better integrated graphics), but the integrated graphics of the i3-370 will be just fine for graphically undemanding games like football manager etc. An i3-2310m based laptop will probably push you up towards 450 or thereabouts unless you find a deal somewhere, so probably just out of budget.

Thank your very much, I really appreciate this!

If I were to push my budget to around 500, could you recommend a good one?

    Thanks again.

The Dell Inspiron is good value too, sacrificing 1GB of RAM for a much better GPU, if you wanted to make good use of the Football Manager 3D engine

Would the HD3000 struggle with the current 3D engine a little bit?, I haven't seen the last few iterations of it. Mainly for addiction reasons, and also so I can spare time to play other games, I have given the series a wide berth for a couple of years :).

The graphics engine has been gradually improving. The HD3000 would be competent, but not fluid if you know what I mean.

Thanks again everyone for your helpful suggestions.

I was in the shop yesterday and had a choice between two laptops:

    One was the Asus A52F (837436) (http://in.asus.com/Notebooks/Versatile_Performance/A52F/)

The other was the HP G6-1189SA (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-g6-1189sa-15-6-laptop-sonoma-red-10783825-pdt.html).

The thing is - I'm not too laptop savvy, and I actually left the shop without a laptop because I would like to get some opinions first.

The Asus is priced at 420Euro with 3GB RAM, >300 GB HD, i3 processor (with the numbers "380" after it ?)
But the HP is priced higher at 470Euro, but with 4GB RAM, and a much higher HD (but the i3 has the number "370" on it).

Can anyone tell me if there is any significance difference between these? I would much prefer to save the 50 quid, by buying the Asus.

But is the RAM difference significant? Or would you suggest I just go ahead and get the HP at the higher price?

Thanks again for your help, hoping to go back up in the morning and get it (well, whichever one you guys suggest).
