DIY Clutch installation problem

Recently the clutch went in my 05 tdi passat and decided to replace the clutch and flywheel (with a solid flywheel after some advise)
Hi all, looking for a bit of advice.

Myself and my father took the gearbox etc out and replaced the clutch and flywheel and put the gearbox back in with extreme difficulty. (not much space to play with) We hooked everything back up and thought all would be ok. When we started the car the clutch was still clunking and not going into gear properly. We then bled the whole system as the pressure on the clutch pedal was very very light, but no luck.

Anybody have any idea what went wrong. The last thing we need is to take it all out again. Why is there no pressure in the pedal? Could there be a bubble somewhere stopping the brake fluid? Is so how the bloody hell do I get at it!

    Cheers lads.

P.S Dual mass flywheels are the DEVIL!

Have you a pressure bleeder? Sometimes it makes it a hell of a lot easier to bleed it from the slave cylinder(release bearing) back up to the reservoir. Also make sure they are no leaks, maybe open off the nipple on the slave cylinder and leave it bleed out to a bottle for a few minutes, it will make it easier to bleed it when you have fluid in the system.

3b or 3c passat, you normally wouldnt open the hydraulic system on a 3c when replacing clutch/flywheel.

    Cheers lads,

All sorted now. There was a bubble in the clutch master cylinder and needed to pump the bejasus out of it. All sorted now and driving with a solid flywheel.
    Fingers crossed
