Its fall and that means back to school for the students and faculty at McKinley High. The New Directions clan returns after a devastating loss at Nationals, so Mr. Schuester assigns a project to get them back on track. Meanwhile, Sue Sylvester starts her congressional campaign.

[Season 3 starts on Sky 1 on Thursday the 22nd of September 2011]
Sources confirm to TVLine exclusively that Ashley Fink’s screen time will be drastically reduced following the Sept. 20 season premiere, which finds her recurring (and somewhat polarizing) character, Lauren Zizes, abruptly quitting New Directions and breaking up with her steady beau Puck

    http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/09/15/glee-spoilers-ryan-murphy-unveils-premiere-episode/
The premiere episode next week features a terrific performance by The Glee Project runner-up Lindsay Pearce and the very unexpected ouster of Santana (Naya Rivera) from New Directions. For a show that’s under constant scrutiny by press (including — we admit it! — EW), Murphy was shocked but obviously pleased that these two major plot points managed to stay under the radar. In fact, Pearce’s number was shot under a cloak of secrecy: the 20-year-old was literally snuck into a soundstage to make sure no one recognized her.

Don’t worry, Murphy reassured reporters: Santana will be back, as will Pearce. In fact, both the 20-year-old Pearce and fellow runner-up Alex Newell, 19, will each appear in two episodes this season while Glee Project winner Damian McGinty, 18, will debut in week 4 as a foreign exchange student who “shacks up” with Brittany (Heather Morris). The show’s other winner Samuel Larsen will appear in episode 10 or 11 as a relative of Puck (Mark Salling).

Here are some other highlights from the episode directed by Eric Stoltz: It features four musical numbers, including a rousing cafeteria performance of “We Got The Beat” by the cast and a sexy solo by Blaine (Darren Criss), who (finally!) leaves the Warblers to be with his beloved Kurt (Chris Colfer) at McKinley High. Rachel (Lea Michele) and Kurt check their egos at the door, as they learn it won’t be so easy to get into a performing arts college after high school. And much to the despair of Will (Matthew Morrison), Sue (Jane Lynch) vows to cut all arts programming to public schools as part of her platform to run for a congressional seat.

And look who’s too cool for school these days? Quinn (Dianna Agron) dyes her hair pink, lights up the cigs, and vows never to sing again. (We’ll see about that!) Mercedes’ new boyfriend appears, too! If that’s not enough, Murphy jam-packs the episode with kneeslappers about tiny trophies, making cocoa babies and Will’s “macaroni hair.” He even quotes John F. Kennedy.

Seen the first ep. of series 3....i actually really like it!, toneally it felt very different, they certainly made changes. While it had alot less humour then i normally like it did seem that it was less cheesy, it felt like a more mature show.

There was ALOT more story, less songs, we don't even hear the first tune until nearly 17 mins into the ep., i knew all the songs and liked them, this new Quinn is VERY different...wow!, kinda liked the new look/attitude though....she got the least screen time.

Lauren, pushed off the grid.....Sam, lol....a brief mention, they've opened up a few spaces then for those Glee Project kids to come into the show, best part Sugar Mata!......LOL!!!!!!!!, oh man, Mr. Shue......Shhhhhhhugar :-)

He was literally stunned by her performance, i think we all were....hehe!, Vanessa Lingies was brilliant, i hope see more of her. I liked what i saw alot, i think they've addressed alot of my own personal "issues" i had with the show all last season. I hope it continues, but i'm very happy with the opener, some brilliant dancing/choreogrphy....those kids that Rachel/Kurt see performing were nothing short of stunning!

I didn't miss Glee at all but i'm giving this 4/5.

I assumed she was some broadway star they asked to do the song, not some reality show contestant. If she was a runner-up than the winner must be superb. I didn't watch the Glee project talent show thing but lordy that girl can sing. I did however keep picturing the Washington Wasteland in my head during her rendition of "Anything Goes" because of how prevalent the tune was in Fallout 3 :p

I agree with Richard on the tone of the episode. Felt slightly less camp. Although people randombly bursting into song in public is always going to feel camp but you take what you can get.

The fake hipster voice they have Quinn putting on though is ultra irritating though. bad acting. Somebody should have pulled her up on that.

Lindsay Pearce was\amazing!....apparently on that Glee Project she was by far the best actor, i think we saw that in last nights ep. + she could sing, her dancing was pretty good as well!....girl is a star imo.

I have to say this was such a rubbish episode, in my opinion. The whole Rachel/Kurt being intimidated by that group of singers seemed really unbelievable, I really didn't think much of it.

Plus I DESPISE Blaine, so having him in New Directions... blech.

I didn't like the song choices with the exception of You Can't Stop the Beat, and the dialogue I thought was very forced. Plus the doing of a Hairspray number after suggesting West Side Story was a bit bizarre.

All the things I love about Glee were missing in this episode (Good songs, humour and decent writing), and there was way too much of the things I cant stand. (Mr. Schue, Blaine and boring show tunes).

Gotta say, not holding out much hope for the rest of the season...

I thought it was a fairly good start! I really liked Quinn's new attitude, I hope the stick with that for a while! A little explanation as to where Sam's gone would be nice! I cant wait to see how they introduce the rest of the Glee Project winners!

    Blasphemy!

I think he's a smug smarmy git myself...kinda like Turidy, but with nice hair.

I didn't think it was that great - found it mildly boring actually. I like the new character (Sugar?) and I like Quinn's new attitude.
Brittany was fantastic as usual and looked pretty good to boot.

Just watched it not as good as I thought it would be but still good to see it back. Sugar seems like a good addition, love that Blaine is in the Glee club and the final number (you can't stop the beat) was cool!

Such a shame Blaine left the Warblers I preferred him there and bye bye Lauren as well :(

Candy was great but why didnt Will allow her in Glee club when Mike (who cant sing) is there

The songs were awful in this opening episode

Completely agree with everything there. Episode was just lacking something.

Can they find a different stoyline for Sue? The whole trying to bring down Glee Club for a third year is going to get boring once again. Her humour and lines are usually great - but last night they were terrible.

I don't know if anyone here reads the recaps, but the one from this site for this episode was brilliant

Why waste all those trees when we can just recycle the same plot we’ve already done 44 times!!

You know the one: Glee needs more members because this/that person was eaten by a shark. Mean kids kick Glee kids in the face, someone gets kicked out of Glee, someone quits Glee and Sue Sylvester tries to destroy Will for let’s be real, really vague reasons we only accept at face value ’cause we like Jane Lynch’s face.

    :pac::pac::pac:

I was really looking forward to the return of Glee and while it was far from the best episode ever, I still found it entertaining! I think people should remember it's not a program aimed at intellectuals (that's all the boring documentaries!!)...it's just a bit of escapism! :)

And I loved the last song...more musicals please!!

Lindsay was surprisingly good - I watched the Glee Project and she was really annoying and false!

That is something i read again and again about her, that she was fake and bitchy.

She moaned in the press about getting a "villan edit"
