I know how our AH'ers love discussing the TV license so here we go again.

Report coming from the Galway Advertiser FB page:
Radio station owners are meeting in Dublin tomorrow to hear new plans for Irish radio which will see wide-ranging changes to ownership structure, franchises etc. The plans by Pat Rabbitte will also see the introduction of a new household charge for TV/Radio as opposed to the old TV licence.

How about doing us all a favour and scrapping it altogether Pat?

They want to charge us for what is essentially background noise now.

Long term boards member, first AH'ers thread, please go easy!

    So ...
Instead of charging you the current rate for a tv license. They will slap on "radio" in the charge to milk that bit more out of you?

    Yep.

If I had my way, there would be no radio in my house but the shnakey feckers will bring this in with the TV license so you have to pay it even if you don't own a radio!

    Bad isnt it.
We all know the government is going to tax its way out of this recession but the thing thats a joke is that when all is over. These 'changes' will still be in place. Once they're in. They're in.

The sad thing is, even if you dont own a radio, you'll still be charged. It'll just get tagged on the tv license bill. So we be screwed anyways.

I believe it's time to chuck out the Sky/UPC/Saorview boxes and hook up the laptop to the TV. Online TV and radio is the way forward.

if theyre going to do this, why dont they just get money off the goverment out of our already bloated prsi / income tax bill , or that new housing tax , that way atleast they could save on the cost of enforcing this lunacy and having the old codger show up at my door every 6 months only for me to give him a fake name.

Haha, not while my parents are around (hopefully for a long time yet to be honest) anyway. Neither of them could find the on switch on a computer...

Right that's it, the ceasefire is over. Starts a thread and then quickly begins to boast in it.

Disgusting! Rubbing salt in our recessionary wounds.
