    Hello all,

Quick question. I know this has been covered in the past, but just looking for some up to date info.

Im travelling by Ferry to a wedding in the UK on the 23rd September. Turns out I have to bring a stack of wedding stuff which wont fit in my own car.

So, I was thinking of renting an MPV or some such to pack all the gear into. Has anyone done that recently (rented a car in Dublin to travel to the UK). Is it just Enterprise who allow this, and for how much?

Thanks a lot in advance for the help.

    Simon

All the car rental companies do it alright but do charge an extra 50euro or so even if you're just going to Belfast or Newry. You could be better off going as a foot passenger on the ferry and picking up a car in Hertz in Holyhead (assuming that's the way your going). The Ferry has no baggage restrictions for foot passengers. Hertz in Holyhead requires that you book well in advance though.

If his stuff will not fit in his own car, how is he expected to bring it as a foot passenger?

Did you ring Enterprise for a quote?

No restrictions on checked in baggage on the ferries. Once a person is capable of lifting it you can bring it as checked baggage, the quantity of luggage doesn't matter. You often have tradesmen with heavy bags of tools going as foot passengers

no doubt these heavy bags would fit in a car though ;)

The OP said he has more stuff than will fit in his car. Is he supposed to carry it in his arms?

He needs a large car to go from A (his home) to B (the wedding venue). I doubt it helps in any way for him to have to carry all that stuff on and off a ferry, and the return journey too.

he has so much stuff it wont fit in his own car so he wants to hire a bigger one. Unless he's Chuck Norris I doubt he can carry it all onto the ferry as hand luggage.

Thanks for the replies all, much appreciated.

Yep, there is way too much stuff for me to carry on as a foot passenger. I have a 156 which is pretty spacious and the stuff won't fit in to it so there is quite a lot.

I rang or emailed Budget, Avis and Enterprise this morning. Budget and Avis won't let me take the car to the UK and Enterprise will come back to me with a price for the surcharge today.

Autoeurpe have a listed surcharge of 113 euro to take a car to the UK. Is that about the level I should expect?

    Thanks again,
    Simon
