Just a quick question ,my mate has a brand new Lancer 1.8 did 150 bhp.Does this come fitted with a DPF?
As he does all city driving,I told him that I'd find out,to save repair bills.

Mitsubishi site isn't helpful unfortunately. Engine seems to have variable valve timing - a diesel 1st.

What's the point though? Don't all diesels pull hard from low revs?

It has a closed flow dpf, the mivec vvt is for top end power rather than low end torque so its the best of both worlds

Thanks for the answer, any chance of an explanation of what closed flow is ?

Word is they are actually making their unit, and dumping the Volkswagen ones they use now.

Be nice to see how a diesel mitzy performs, they were always hard on juice. :(

I know someone who has a newish one. Harsh ride, and a firm push with your thumb will dent a panel.

All new diesel engines sold in Europe from the start of this year were required to have a DPF fitted to be Euro VI compliant. Diesel engines and DPFs hate short trips or city driving as they are not designed for that type of use. People who don't have a need for diesel will still buy them though as it will save them a few quid on motor tax and fuel.

BTW its a Mitsubishi developed and designed engine, not sourced from someone else.

It's a fantastic engine. Feels more powerful than the figures suggest, even in the ASX and Outlander it's pretty nippy.

Fuel consumption in the Lancer is damn good too. Had one for a few days and checked the fuel consumption coming off the motorway on the way home the first night - said 4.3L/100km so thought there was an error and reset it. Ended up back at 4.3 after a few days driving - and that wasn't taking it easy.........

Catch is the interior quality isn't great, but if you don't mind a bland dash and inferior plastics, the standard spec is very good (cruise, climate, bluetooth).

Probably not suited to short start/stop journeys, and only time will tell on the resale values.

Believe it or not they are one of the biggest engine makers in the world, make a lot commercial engines too.
I had one for 2 weeks and it is a fantastic engine 300 toques and 150 break and good on Duce very good it you drive steady at 80 - 90 kph.
One of the best engines in its class I have drove - down sides - firm ride and panels seem very light as already mentioned.

21k looks like a great price for a diesel like this.

It will be interesting to see How it will do!

Would love to see mitsubishi to return to Ireland.

It's a class engine alright, I had a test drive of a 1 year old 318d on the same day and the Lancer had the legs on it, in 1st and 2nd it goes like a petrol.

You get it kitted out with side skirts, alloys, rear spoiler, painted brake calipers, bonnet scoop etc for 22k.Thats what he offered me down from 25k:D

    Amazing deal.

I heard they are putting a 200bhp ( 143-153g co2) 2.2 diesel into the sport version next year in the uk.

It would be some machine then.

    Hey,

I know this is a seriously old post but im gonna chance commenting just incase.
I'm thinking of going for a used Lancer 1.8 did 150 bhp.

The only problem is, I have heard that when it comes to servicing & repairs it can get quite pricey?
Just wondering if any of ye know if this is the case or would replacement parts & general servicing be reasonably standard in prices?
    Cheers.
