Bus into Town

First off, I don't have a clue of Dublin. Now, how long would it take to get public transport from DCU to Heuston Station? Would one have to get 2 buses, Luas, Dart? My lectures finish at 3 and if I could get into the station for the 3.30 train home; I'd save 16 euro.

I dunno about buses straight to Heuston, but I know that ones into the city centre (O'Connell Street) take around 15/20 minutes...
Try checking out this link here: http://www4.dcu.ie/info/get_to.shtml

    Not going to happen.

Fastest way would probably be bus from DCU to town, then Luas from Abbey St. to Heuston.
Definitely won't take less than half an hour though.

I think the quickest way to get from dcu to heuston would be a 19a to o connell street and then a luas to heuston but i doubt you'd make it in 30 mins i'd say it would take closer to 40 or 45 depending on how long you have to wait for the bus.

Cheers for the info. Might leave the lecture at 2.45 and see can I make it then. Seems stupid not to at least try. I've looked at the route planner on Dublin Bus but they have about 5 stops listed for both DCU and Hueston Station so was slightly confusing. Would it still be unrealistic if I was to leave at 2.45 and a bus came within 5-10 mins.

What day is that? I do find busses more likely to be busy on Friday due to students going home, and that slows them down a bit.

    Thursday. Off on Fridays :)

And no Thursday nights out?! For shame.

Physically impossible, unless you buy a bike - might make it then. Failing that, taxi, but that could cost you more than the e16 you're looking to save.

Go out Thursday night, kip on somebody's couch for the night, go home on Friday. Use the €16 to buy drinks. :p

haha! Well obviously won't be doing this every week like but I am doing a Masters and I believe me I have done my fair share of drinking already. You think it's still impossible even if I leave at 2.45?

Lunchtime Thursday. Leaving DCU at 2.45 - first thing, bus busy - school kids. Taking traffic, stopping etc into account you're looking at 3.15 to Abbey Street, then another 10-15 mins for the Luas. That means running into Heuston at 3.30, barring no delays. Living on the route from DCU to town - buses don't come that often. Either does the Luas.

Plus leaving your lecture at 2.45 means 2.50 at the bus-stop. If you're that adamant to not miss that train, consider skipping the lecture all together.

Cheers, i'll time it someday and see. Seems silly not to at least try, even if I leave the lecture at like 2.35-2.40. I only have 2 classes that day so would like to make them both, or else no point coming in for one!

You're looking at 0-15 minutes waiting for a bus, 20 minutes into town with good traffic, 5 minutes to get on a luas and I think ~15 minutes from Abbey St to Heuston
