Changing registration plates without consent.

I recently brought my car in to get some warranty work carried out by a well known authorised dealer in Dublin.
I just noticed when I was changing my tyre that a set of my registration plates were there.
The garage replaced them with their own plates and advertising their dealership.
What really annoys me is that they did not ask for my permission to do this.
I rang the dealership, they gave me a lame excuse, oh the lads done that by mistake blah blah blah and the manager would get back to me, which he hasn't btw.
I told them that I wanted them to come to my home today and and put back the original plates, I certainly wasn't driving there as its about 120 kilometers round trip from where I live, so far no response, rant over can I report this dealership to simi fuming.

A certain 4x4 place in blanch did the same to me (back in the day when I was too scared to tinker about).

They even put an ugly sticker on the rear window !

    They're still on the car?

    How did you not notice?

They won't come out anyway I'd say. Use a different dealer in future. It's a two minute job to swap them, annoying all the same though.

Send them an invoice for advertising thier business for them.
Tell them if it isn't paid within 30 days, you'll get your solicitor onto the case.

Many garages now use plates with their dealer names on a sort of extra bit of plate added on to the botoom (Not the surrounds, actually part of the plate) is that not legal then?

One of the first things I do when I get a car is to remove all dealer adds.

I would say it would be fine as it's actually not part of the plate per se. It's not me who brought it up anyhow! ;)

I was in a garage, up the 'dublin mountains' filling up with petrol and noticed the the service centre next to the garage was fitting stickers and plate surrounds to the cars coming out of a service.

Then noticed one of my neighbours must use them as they suddenly had stickers and plates surrounds on their car.
I would be removing them and giving them back at best, i took off the garage stickers why do i want your advertisement, instead.

Could be worse my sister had a garage decal attached to her car, didn't go down to well!

If somebody even contemplated attacking my car with a Decal, I'd remove it very very gently with tooth floss and soapy water and then shove it right up their arse so they wouldnt **** right for a week !

Fair enough a sticker but a Decal ? Haha ! Thats a line crossing thing to do !

It wasn't huge just about 3-4inches long on the boot lid it was swiftly removed.

    Not the point at all.

That's just going too far IMHO. Those things can mark.

There was a few dealers used to attach plastic decals to the car, Esmonde Motors was one and I think MGM Opel was another.

I'm always suspicious of cars that have had that done.
It can be innocent, but it can sometimes be additional evidence of damage / imported / private buy / dodgy / hiding its past / lack of confidence in the dealer.
Personally I like to see what dealer window stickers / plates are still attached to any car I'm looking at.
It's another piece of info for the puzzle.

I don't mind reputable dealers attaching discrete decals to cars they own and are selling, but attaching them to cars they just service is a bit much.

Bloody hate dealers that do that - can't get our plate surrounds on them :D

It personally wouldn't bother me as long they fitted a nice set of quality steel plates like Windsor and MSL fit to their cars.
