Aldi Crisps

Often have myself some Aldi crisps, they are the business.

The cheese and onion ones taste like Walkers,
    Smokey Bacon taste like Tayto,
Salt & Vinegar taste like Walkers (I think, not a big fan of S & V)

They also have a selection of crisps that are pretty much identical to Chipstix, Bikers and a few others.

So they basically took the best flavours from all the local crisp makers and packaged them as their own.

Is this the greatest rip off ever?

    Me thinks so.

How is it a rip off? if they're able to replicate the lovely taste of the big companies for a lower price, that's great!

Tayto and Walkers didnt invent Cheese & Onion Crisps!

Indeed, I must replicate the exact taste of Coca Cola and sell it at a knock down price.

Them selling them works out well for me, couldn't care less.

I can appreciate a good crisp.

My mother bought a 6 pack of crisps last week. She says to me "Hey Mr.Stuffins, would you like some Buffalo Hunky Dorys?"

"Yes mammy, I would rather like some Buffalo Hunky Dorys"

So I tucked into the packet and they tasted off, so I inspected the pack to see the Best Before and when I did I notieced thay were in fact a rip off called "Okie Dokies". the packet was a copy of Hunky Dorys.

    They werent as nice!

Walkers' Salt and Vinegar sucks, they are close to being tasteless.

Oh yeah, they also have crisps called Okey Dokeys that are placed beside the Hunky Dorys and have similar flavours.

    It's a massive crisp conspiracy.

since when did walkers become the benchmark for cheese and onion crisps in Ireland, I wouldn't even have them in the top 3 - jaysus I'd even prefer Perry!

Tbh OP, I can't see the quality you're referring to in aldi/lidl brand crisps, they're pretty poor.

One of them, I think aldi, has a great fizzy orange though, would almost rival finches and club. Being stuck where I am, you appreciate a good fizzy orange!

I'm pretty sure the Louth Aldi isn't that much different to here! Well apart from not doing Salt n Vinegar over here  Poxy paprika instead *vomit smiley

I think it has been mentioned elsewhere in Consumer that the Aldi Okey Dokey crisps are made by Largo Foods aka Perri aka Hunky Dorys and nowadays makers of Tayto.

The company is based in Meath - maybe that's why it may leave a certain "taste" on the Louth palate?? ;)

Nah i had aldi crips the other day salt and vineger tasted like stale ready salted and the cheese and onion had no flavour.
    Walkers are shít too.
Tayto multipack is where its at.

Strange... as both hunky dorys and Okie Dokies are both made by Largo foods in the same factory... probably on the same line.

The difference is all in the mind. Powerful stuff this advertising lark.

Well the difference wasn't at all in the mind as, if you'd read the story, I realised they tasted different before actually realising they were not Hunky Dorys.

Trust me, Okey Dokeys don't taste as good as Hunky Dorys. The difference is all in the mouth with this one!

they sell a multipack with onion ringds, cheese curls and some wheelies knock offs that taste really good.

Although wheelies started to taste like crap a few years ago when they started skimping on the powder.

As a confirmed Coca-Cola snob I was surprised to find that the Ikea fake coke is probably the head and shoulders over all the 'fake' cokes including Pepsi.

You can't beat a good bag of Tayto Cheese and Onion

Another favourite would have to be Marks and Spencers beef and onion, have loved them since i were a nipper

Their crinkle crisps are made my largo so your basically getting hunky doreys but at own brand prices.

It's the same with their Irish relishes... which are "hand made in county cork" and taste very like a well known Irish brand of high repute.

There was an article in the Irish times about it a few weeks ago, apparently a lot of the Aldi Irish own brand range comes from well known brands but at much smaller prices. Some of their yogurts are made by a reputable Irish brand to.

They buy the exact same meat as superquinn to.... but they sell it at cheaper prices.

It's pretty funny if you're a brand snob who thinks Aldi is sub standard...

Bought those okie dokies for a while...they strike me as being hunky dorys that didn't make it past the first QC...they tend to be harder, less/more flavoursome or bigger/smaller.
But the taste isn't far off and at half the price they're grand.

The Lidl multi pack of crisps, its either 18 or 24 pack, in red packaging, are fecking deadly.

And they only cost about €3, whereas its normally €2.90 something for a 12 pack of Kings or Tayto.

However, my cola beverage HAS to be CocaCola. Failing that, de oul Country Spring Cola is full of sugary chemicalness. Similar to that of Cavan Cola.

They haven't, I can only assume the OPs gone mad on low quality foreign cheese flavouring substitute.

You can get big bags of actual hunky dorys in Lidl.

I am partial to a Tayto Velvet crunch myself.I picked up the Aldi version last week and guess what they are exactly the same and cheaper to boot.

Hmmm, I'd steer clear of them Okie Dokies if I were you...
