Do You Actually Watch Wrestling????

No this isnt my attempt to be entered into the epic PW Fail Thread, but a legimate question.. Reading through the "Confessions of a Wrestling Fan" thread, i noticed something strange and indeed something im guilty of myself. It seems quite a lot of us fastforward through actual Wrestling matches, and just watch the promo's or matches with guys we want to see Wrestle.. Personally I've tried to curb this by watching show's Live, and forcing myself to watch guys who bore the sh*t out of me just so i can appreciate the Wrestlers i like even more.. Whats everyone's views on skipping through Raw, Smackdown and IMPACT! ? is it modern socialties need for instant gratification? Or is it just WWE and TNA not giving us fans what we want?

What do you watch? 13 votes

Yeah, I'm guilty of skipping the shows for only the important parts.

I really think thing's like PVR's (Sky+) and YouTube, indeed the internet, have made it more difficult to actually watch wrestling live like you would back in 99-03. For a show like Raw/SD/Impact, the fact that you know you can just skip to the really important parts, like promo's, make it more appealing that sitting down and watching the whole show.

For myself, I usually record all the shows (Raw, SD, NXT, Superstars, Impact) and try to watch them as fast as I can. My usual week would be Impact on a Monday (fast forwarded), Raw would be watched mainly on Tuesday nights (thanks to my collage timetable) so I can listen to Review-a-Raw. SD is watched on Saturday morning (I fly through this cause of spoilers), Superstars and NXT usually follow. For PPV's on Sky, I'd record it but usually watch it without fast forwarding.

I really think reading spoilers/knowing you can skip ads etc... are the main reasons why some of us fast forward through

    The answer is depends.

I tend to skip around Raw, Smackdown and Impact. Raw is the only one I watch live, something I havent been doing recently due to work.

I watch all of Superstars and NXT unless there is like a JTG vs Santino match.

I watch hyped Japanese Wrestling matches on youtube or via download.

I buy the big indie events (DDT4, Kot etc). I get ROH and Evolve iPPVs.

My big project this summer was to watch the WCW and New Japan 1980s set I have but that was a massive fail on my part.

in general i'll watch the show through; i skip ads and immediate replays of the finish, slam of the week etc. if i'm getting bored of a show i generally just turn it off rather than fast forward and i'll pick it up again sometime later.

usually on tv shows, horrible matches are fairly short so if i fast forward them i end up having to rewind so it's easier just to do the 4 minutes, lol.

i've been watching SD every week for the last little while on Sundays, quite enjoyable but seeing Orton/Cody again on RAW isn't tickety-boo though!

with randy, hhh and taker i'll fast forward their entrances but watch others. lately i've been winding on Punk's entrance, i find his theme plays a lot these days.

Excellent idea for a thread as it's something I've been guilty of too. I often even question if it's because maybe I've just lost interest.

Thankfully there's a solid Kurt Angle match every so often that reaffirms that I do indeed enjoy it!

When it comes to WWE stuff, I'll skip through most stuff and only watch the parts that might interest me. I'd also largely base some of it on the comments on here and if a match is recommended then I'll check it out.

I tend to watch a lot more of the ROH and indy stuff without skipping and largely I think that is because I avoid spoilers on such events and also the unpredictable nature of the matches.

With ROH/Evolve/CZW etc.there can be a lot of surprises in a match with some good, unusual spots you wouldn't normally see. The WWE style of wrestling is a little boring to me in that unless it's Wrestlemania, I know most matches will be very similar in terms of style. It's in this regard that I prefer TNA. It may be all over the place, but it's a little more exciting to me.

I much prefer watching documentaries on Wrestling than some of the events tbh. The last few wrestling related things I've seen have been the Jim Cornette 1997 shoot, and the National Geographic documentary that was recommended here, both were a fantastic watch and provided more entertainment to me than any Raw or Smackdown could.

I watched last night's Raw in about 10 mins, so yeah, I skip. Haven't watched Smackdown in a long time. I watch the PPVs live though.

I fast forward through Raw. I will watch a ROH/Dragongate/NOAH/EVOLVE start to finish and probably only fast forward the promos.

The WWE product is so shíte at the moment it doesn't deserve my time. Its handy to fast forward between 5.20 and 6pm on a Tuesday before Revista starts!

I doubt many people would have the time to watch all of WWE's programming every week. I certainly don't anyway.

I finally have some spare time to myself now until Christmas and I have a big von Erichs vs the Freebirds Comp that I want to sink my teeth into.

I watch RAW and Smackdown aftetr recording them, like Jay I fastforward through breaks, replays and slam of the week stuff. I will also fast forward through khali matches, big show matches and random diva tag matches. I watch the few minutes that are left.

I also watch Superstars most weeks.

I don't bother with impact at all.

I tend to get through Raw in about an hour. Smackdown I usually have on in the background on a Friday evening while doing other things so no fast forwarding there.

Generally with matches, I fast forward when I know its going to be the exact same match I've seen 100 times from a guy. I know people cry about spot monkeys but I will always be far more interested by them cause watching their matches tend to have wtf and holy **** moments. I have no intentions of watching Cena go through the same "Beatdown, 5MoD, no sell, celebration" routine again.

Because of the summer holidays, I've been staying up on a Monday night to watch Raw live, which I'd never done before. Luckily for me, HHH has always been my favourite wrestler and now he's involved in the main storyline, so that's kept me interested. However, as soon as the opening promo is done, I go to bed. The only WWE matches I've watched in full since about 2006/2007 are the first Money in the Bank matches from the MITB PPVs from this year and last year, and HHH vs Undertaker on Youtube the day after Wrestlemania. I used to watch TNA all the way through, because despite what people may say about it, I found it to be infinitely more watchable than WWE. But now it's on a different channel, which, because of the way UPC is set up in rural areas like the one where I live, I don't get. So no, unless it's a match between wrestlers I enjoy watching, I don't watch actual wrestling, just the promos.

I'll also say I voted "Screw workrate, I want sports entertainment" but more cause it was closest to how I feel. I want sports entertainment but I do appreciate great workrates. The problem, for me, is there are a lot of wrestlers who don't fall into either category...

    This.
I wasnt going to vote, but this sums it up.

There would have been a time where i would have been able to say 'screw workrate...' without thinking, but actual wrestling has gotten better recently, but theres too many constant repeating of matches that causes me to not really care if something happens in them.

Justin Roberts: The following match is scheduled for one fall. Making his way to the ring...............JACK SWA

Me: Thank **** for the fast forward button

Nowadays if I want to see great work-rate I'll watch Keeping up with the Kardashians.
