Sky subscription cancelled and lost free to air channels as a result

My aunt who is an old age pensioner cancelled her SKY subscription and decided to just have the free to air channels. She has had her satellite system for over 7 years and paid Sky the whole time over that period. She was really surprised when she lost all her free to air channels. She contacted SKY and they told her she had to pay and resubscribe to get her box working again. She is an old lady and she may have been confused but I thought SKY could not block free to air channels? Has anyone had a similar experience?

The bbc s and itvs should be in other channels you may have to programme them in

I think they work without the Subscription card, turn off the box, take out the card and turn the box back on again.

I didn't think they could block them either. Its possible to receive a few free channels if you turn off the power to the box, take out the card and then turn the box back on with the card still out....you can get a good few decent channels.

To get RTE, TV3 and TG4 just bring the tv aerial to the tv directly (assuming there is one present). :)

Yes that is what I thought. I told her and she had removed the SKY card and she had all her True Movies, CBS, BBC and ITV channels. These were all blocked and a message came up saying she had to unplug her box and reconnect it. She did all that and nothing worked until she phoned SKY and they unblocked the box.
