Difference between HD and SD channels content wise?

I'm editing the channel list on a new HD satellite box and I'm wondering why bother with the SD versions of channels if I have them in HD. For example, why keep BBC 1 (SD) when I have BBC1 HD? Similarly, Channel 4 /Channel 4 HD, UTV/ITV1 HD etc.... Is the content the same? Will I miss out on much if I delete the SD versions?

BBC 1 HD does not carry the regional variation content, so you will get a red screen from time to time with a message saying no HD content
