With all the hype starting around iPhone 5 and the comparisons to the Android phones, the Apple fanboys are still touting that there are loads of Great apps that are on iOS but are missing on Android. I'm wondering which ones these are and are there really loads of them that are not available on Android?

The only one I really would like is Instagram. But are there many others?

Google Goggles can translate text on signs, not as pretty though

In terms of apps theres very little on iOS that doesnt have an Android alternative.
its a different issue with games but im happy with my emulators :pac:

I haven't found a good equivalent to Air Video yet (streaming from PC to phone for video, any format). Tried VLC Direct Pro but not as good by far

A video transcoder? You don't really need one, I use Mobo player and it will stream any file I choose from my NAS. I just browse the network with ES file explorer and then open videos with Mobo.

I'm missing Flipboard which I have on iPad but can't install on sensation :) but I found Pulse and Taptu very good on android so not a big deal. Generally I like to have both systems so I can see how they progress but i couldn't use iPhone.

Have you tried Plex? I haven't used it much but from my limited usage it seems ok.

WinAmp does this .. And it syncs with iTunes - Wirelessly..

Most apps end up on android, the problem at the moment is there's more money to be made in iPhone. Apps will appear there first and on android a good bit later, Sky Go being an example of this.

This should change down the line (although not for a few years). People will be able to write apps using html5 and JavaScript that will run on any mobile OS.

the problem at the moment is there's more money to be made in iPhone.

Is that bit true though? I don't know as I'm not a developer but I believe that putting apps on the Google Market is cheaper than ITunes for the developers. Also there are frequently articles like this about the market share of Android.

    http://mashable.com/2011/09/26/android-sales-2-to-1-iphone/

    http://www.mobilemarketingwatch.com/android-outsells-iphone-2-to-1-in-summer-smartphone-sales-18775/

    http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/09/galaxy-s-ii-10-million-sales/

Before anybody says it I know a lot of iPhone users are waiting for the iPhone 5 so there'll be a big boost when that comes out but I think there are a few new Android models due before Christmas too.

Angry Birds makes more money on Android than it does on iPhone so it's not strictly true that there's more money to be made on iPhone.

Everpaper is another excellent Instapaper app for Android.

Sky Go is really the only Iphone app that I would want. But as mentioned above, it'll be here soon enough.

Ulster Bank have an iphone and not a android app. would be handy though.

On Android I have no ability to control my popcorn hour. No matter what app I tried, it just never works (Plonky may work, but too much trouble to setup/maintain).

Also, I heard that the iPad will have an app this year that allows it to act as a second monitor for a PC. Android won't.

    VLC player.

VLC technically isnt on Apple anymore, and there is a VLC Beta out for Android :)

    Exactly. Apart from http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/download.php?product=idisplay&platform=android
I'm typing this now on my Windows PC using my Xoom as a monitor.
In fairness though it's slow. It's alright as a spare display for opening static apps but I wouldn't want to use it all the time. You can download it to try out though. They give you a trial license for a week.

Does it? I've got winamp and I've never seen this.

And, the reason I want this is because I listen to a lot of Hip Hop, where the producer is arguably more important than the rapper.

Instafetch seems good, thanks. An official app would be nice though ;/.
I know there are lots of GR apps, but none are as nice-looking as when I used Reeder (which works+looks great, IMO). Google's is kinda alright, but doesn't have much caching (even Gmail doesn't have much :x, it just decides it'll stop caching messages after a small number)- which seems to be a problem with a lot of GR apps for Android - the developers expect you to have an always-on connection, so don't offer as much caching as iOS apps, since some people might have iPods without 3G.
I guess it's mainly fragmentation to blame (which isn't a problem if devs make their apps work for vast majority of phones - TweetDeck looks great on my crappy phone..), but I guess not all phones will have a lot of space to cache stuff compared to the 8+GB on nearly all iPod touches/iPhones/iPads. /Wall-o-text-o.

But the Sky Go app is free? Why can't they just make an app for Android??

There is one in development so they say and we should have it before the end of the year.
