I'm gonna be spending a lot of time on busses, and want some to listen to. Preferably non-music based. Banter and comedy and that sort of thing. Sifting through the billions out there is taking forever and so far turned up only rubbish.

If you've any interest in scientific things rather than general chitchat, try "Dr Karl" 's phone-in from BBC5Live:

Or you could get some audio books.

Just getting into this, listening to the Kevin Smith one, great banter so far.

Adam and Joe was quite good when it ran.

Well obviously after Sachsgate the radio show got cancelled, but I highly recommend downloading the Russell Brand Show on BBC Radio 2. They're from 2007 - 2008, but I still listen to them religiously, and they're still as funny as ever.
If you google it you will find an archive for all the shows.

Not a comedy but given your username you might find this podcast from RTÉ Radio One last Saturday to be very enlightening. I was bowled over by this family's courage and the entire story was very moving:

Documentary on One: My Dad's depression

you know you can move audio from youtube to your ipod right?

http://www.flvto.com/ lets you do this quite easily, so check what you like to watch on youtube and move the audio to your ipod.

hardest part is not watching them beforehand.

god i sound like an advert. anyway some of the following.

    http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=audio+book&aq=f

    http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=biography+of&aq=f

    http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=chris+rock&aq=f

    http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=eddie+izzard&aq=0&oq=eddie+i

you get the idea - and pilkington goes without saying of course.

especially this one - dangerously funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcwiuleIPCE

CNET's The 404, three fellas in there twenties talk about everything and anything. Being on CNET you's think it would be mostly about tech but it's more of a pop culture show really, plenty of banter and some serious laughs to be had I've often been in tears.

As someone said before This American Life from NPR is outstanding. NPR also do another really interesting podcast called Planet Money which is well worth a listen.

Started listening to this recently and I'm really enjoying it. The Complete Guide to Everything is good too, as is Sick and Wrong, though the latter isn't for the easily offended.

For a more sciencey / skeptical feel have a look at The Skeptics Guide to the Universe, Skeptoid, Skeptics with a K and Righteous Indignation.

Previously mentioned as well was We're Alive, kind of like a radio drama based around the survivors of a zombie apocalypse.

The Sound of Young America has some great interviews with creative types and celebrities.

Judge John Hodgman is a Daily show guy who Judge Judy's insanely petty disputes about social mores. It's very funny.

Infinite Monkey Cage is quite good too, science based comedy thing. Except the resident comedian scientist better be good at science because he can't do jokes.

The Moth is live true storytelling. Particularly check out the one with Jerry Stahl, where he hilariously talks about trying to get himself off heroin by smoking crack, which doesn't work as well as you might think it would

For a bit of tech news i highly recommend twit (this week in tech)

its an american one and they aren't the usual annoying american type. Get in special guests from websites etc and just discuss whats going on during the week, There is a whole load of "this week in...."

they seem to actually get on well with each other too, not staged or scripted

That's still going, but I think they only do 12-15 a year. Ended with Glastonbury the last couple of years. Highly enjoyable :)

    Chris Moyles isn't bad either.
