Printer Problem

Please help .. have just wasted 2 hours of my life trying to sort this out and still no luck. Sorry but I really dont know much about computers and printers, so go easy on me.

So we have a dell inspiron 1545 with 02 mobile broadband and a HP wireless Photosmart printer. I had the printer set up and working for the past 6 months but now when I try to print the computer is not recognising the network.

So when I go into the control panel of the computer, select networks, the printer is not there. When I try to connect to the network on the printer it is asking for a SSID name. What the heck is that and where do I find it. I printed out the wireless network test report page on the printer and it is saying that the HP printer network name does not match the access point network name.

    Please please help ...

Have you changed your home wifi lately? The SSID name is the name that shows up when you're looking for wifi networks - e.g. "McDonalds wifi" or "Jims house wifi". It would be the same settings you would put into your iPhone or your laptop.

We dont have wifi in the house or a router. But the printer worked fine up til now. The only thing that was done recently with the computer was that my son set it up for ps3 online and also all the browsing history/passwords etc for internet was deleted.

Is there anywhere I could look on the computer that would show me what my SSID name is.

Try system restore to a time when the printer was working.

    XP/Vista/7 ?

Try Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes
delete and reinstall if you have disks that came with your printer, otherwise look on manufacturers site for drivers.

You say you don't have wifi, just O2 dongle, so were you connected to the printer by cable when it used to work ?
