    Hi ya,

i'm heading over for the fixture at punchestown on the 12th October 2011 and was wondering if this was a big fixture? we are looking for a good atmosphere but wondering if this will be a small event and if its worth looking elsewhere.

    thanks

There'll be a decent crowd there, it's not a major meeting by any means but it's the two day season opener. It won't be anything like the October Aintree meeting for instance, for a bit of comparison, obviously it's midweek. Realistically, that early in the season it's the best you'll see here. It should be a good two days though, there'll be a decent lash of prize money but the fields are big in most of the races. If you're coming over just for Punchestown I'd wait 'till November if that suited you.

After 3 October visits to Aintree last year we said we'd chance the 3 day Cheltenham Open meeting for a change, we were delighted with it, the better racing really made the few days extra special, taking chances with the weather and flights etc but not a huge risk.

In saying that I travelled to Leopardstown from Cork (160 miles) for one of their evening summer race days in August and 'twas great too.

Given the criteria 'tis the only option :)
You'll have a grand time, Punchestown is a lovely course with great facilities for the race goers.

Hi - i've come over from the UK for this meeting for the last few years and will be there again on 13th. It is usually a quiet day but it still has that magic that only Punchestown has! There will be big fields and some outsiders come in - who knows you might get lucky so enjoy.
