Engine oil for e90

Hello All,

I have recently decided to keep my car (I had thought about selling it) and with this decided that I am going to take a more active role in keeping it maintained. My car is a BMW e90 (2006) 318i. I was hoping you could answer the following;

What type of engine oil should I be using?
How often does the pollen filter need to be changed and is it an easy job to change?

How often should I be topping up the oil?

It should say in the owners manual when the pollen filter should be changed.. if you dont have the owners manual etc,, then ask a BMW dealer for one... or buy one on the internet.

You should CHANGE your oil once a year... you might get away with once every two years... it depends on your mileage too... i wouldnt leave it longer than 1 year or 10000miles/16000km...

Haynes Manuals recommend changing the oil twice a year or at 5000miles... this will keep the engine in better condition is what they say. Speaking of which, you should buy a haynes manual! Pollen filter only needs to be changed every few years. It was easier on the E46 to change (2 plastic clips to rotate), but still ok on the E90 (just a few bolts hold it on).
